Lawton, OK – The City of Lawton said repairs on NE Rogers Lane are progressing, with Stormwater Maintenance crews expected to complete their portion of the project by the end of the week before roadway reconstruction begins.
According to city officials, drainage repair work is on track to wrap up by July 10. Once that work is finished, the Streets Division is expected to begin rebuilding and paving the roadway during the week of July 13. Officials noted that all construction timelines remain dependent on weather conditions, as rainfall can significantly affect stormwater infrastructure projects.
The city said it was first notified of the drainage failure on June 25. Emergency utility locates were immediately requested, the roadway was closed to traffic, and notification signs were placed at several locations, including Flowermound Road and Gore Boulevard, Flowermound Road and Cache Road, and along NE Rogers Lane from Interstate 44 to the closure. Additional barricades were installed at NW Brentwood on June 26, and all utility locates were completed by June 29.
Drainage repair work began on June 30. Since then, crews have excavated the damaged drainage structure, removed the failed pipe, installed new drainage pipe, and placed the initial base course.
City officials said crews will next place flowable fill around both ends of the new pipe to stabilize the surrounding soil, install riprap to reduce erosion, and clean the drainage channel to restore proper water flow.
Once the drainage work is complete, the Streets Division will begin reconstructing the roadway. That phase of the project will include compacting the roadway, rebuilding the base, and paving the repaired section.
The City of Lawton acknowledged the inconvenience the project has caused for residents on the city’s east side and thanked the public for its continued patience and understanding while repairs are completed.
