Lawton Police Department urges drivers to follow traffic controls in Parkridge and Lee Boulevard construction zone

Lawton, OK – The Lawton Police Department is reminding drivers to follow posted traffic controls and detour routes in the construction area near Parkridge and Lee Boulevard following reports of dangerous driving behaviors in the zone.

According to the department, officers have recently received reports of motorists ignoring posted signs, making prohibited turns, and in some cases driving into oncoming traffic in an attempt to reach their destinations more quickly.

Police acknowledged that construction zones can be frustrating for drivers due to detours, delays, and changes in normal traffic patterns. However, officials emphasized that saving a few minutes is not worth the risk of causing a crash.

The department said traffic signs and controls in construction zones are in place to protect drivers, construction workers, and others using the roadway. Motorists are encouraged to follow all posted instructions and use designated detour routes while work is underway.

Officials noted that the construction project is temporary, while the consequences of unsafe driving decisions can be long-lasting. The department also encouraged residents to follow its social media channels for additional updates and information.

The Lawton Police Department urged drivers to remain patient, obey traffic laws, and prioritize safety while traveling through construction areas.
