Lawton, OK – The Lawton Police Department Motor Unit has partnered with Oklahoma Highway Safety to promote motorcycle safety awareness across southwest Oklahoma.
According to the department, the initiative focuses on educating both motorcyclists and drivers about safe riding practices and the unique challenges motorcyclists face on the road, including size, visibility, and riding techniques such as downshifting and weaving. Officials said increasing awareness among all road users can help reduce traffic fatalities and injuries involving motorcycles.
As part of the partnership, the Lawton Police Department is planning to host a motorcycle safety class, with a tentative date set for mid-March 2026. Additional details and official dates are expected to be announced through the department’s social media platforms.
Police emphasized that cooperation between drivers and riders is critical to improving roadway safety. By helping motorists better understand how to anticipate and respond to motorcycle movements, officials say roads can be safer for everyone.
Those interested in registering for the upcoming class or learning more about Oklahoma Highway Safety’s motorcycle safety programs are encouraged to seek additional information through the department.
