Oklahoma – Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt is pushing back on what he described as politically motivated criticism following a grand jury report involving the early release of an inmate.
Stitt said his thoughts are with victim Micaela Borrego and her family, noting the lasting impact of the incident. He emphasized that the justice system handled the case appropriately and stressed that drunk driving should not be tolerated in Oklahoma.
The governor also stated that neither he nor his office provided any special treatment to the inmate involved in the case.
He said the grand jury found no criminal wrongdoing involving the Department of Corrections or his office, characterizing the controversy as political criticism tied to an upcoming gubernatorial race.
Stitt added that his focus remains on supporting victims and maintaining public safety, stating he will continue working to ensure accountability for drunk driving offenses in the state.
