Oklahoma – Governo Kevin Stitt issued a statement supporting a U.S. Department of State review of Mexican consulates operating across the United States under President Donald Trump’s “America First” foreign policy approach.
Stitt said he welcomes the review of all Mexican consulates, including the one in Oklahoma City, and emphasized support for stronger oversight and accountability of foreign government offices operating in the U.S.
The State Department announced it is reviewing all 53 Mexican consulates in the United States. The governor referenced the Oklahoma City consulate, which opened in May 2023, saying it was intended to strengthen lawful cooperation with Mexican nationals legally residing in the state and to support economic ties.
Stitt said Oklahoma supports foreign consulates that operate in alignment with American laws and interests, adding that accountability is necessary when foreign governments do not maintain what he described as a “pro-America stance.”
The Oklahoma City consulate currently serves hundreds of thousands of Mexican nationals in the state and works to provide consular services, support business connections, and strengthen economic relationships between the two regions.
Stitt also reiterated his broader position that Oklahoma supports international partnerships that benefit local businesses and communities while maintaining respect for U.S. law and sovereignty.
