Lawton, OK – The City of Lawton City Council meeting on April 28 included several presentations and proclamations honoring community service, public awareness efforts, and local initiatives.
During the meeting, City Manager John Ratliff presented the True North Award to Mincie Beamesderfer, a claims investigator in the City Attorney’s Office, recognizing her 20 years of service. Officials said Beamesderfer has played a key role in reviewing claims filed against the city and ensuring cases are handled with fairness, accuracy, and professionalism.
The Anna Belle Carter Memorial Foundation received the Clean Sweep Award for its ongoing efforts to support community cleanup initiatives. Officials said the organization has contributed to improving neighborhood conditions through volunteer litter removal projects and continued efforts to promote community beautification.
Council members also issued a proclamation recognizing April 2026 as Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month, emphasizing the importance of inclusion, early intervention, and support services for individuals on the autism spectrum.
In addition, Mayor Stan Booker proclaimed April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention Month, highlighting the need for continued awareness and community involvement to protect children and support families. The proclamation also recognized the work of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Southwest Oklahoma.
The council also proclaimed May 4–8, 2026, as National Air Quality Awareness Week, encouraging residents to stay informed about air conditions and take steps to reduce emissions and improve environmental health. Officials noted efforts such as reducing vehicle idling and monitoring air quality levels as part of ongoing city initiatives.
