Lawton, OK – The Lawton Police Department issued traffic alerts ahead of the Spirit of Survival Bicycle Tour and the Spirit of Survival Race, warning motorists about lane restrictions and road closures connected to the events.
As part of the bicycle tour, East Gore Boulevard was scheduled to be reduced to one lane for westbound motorists as bicyclists traveled along the route.
Lawton police officers were assigned to NE 15th Street and Gore Boulevard to block the outside lane and assist bicyclists as they passed through the area. Police urged drivers to remain alert, slow down and watch for bicyclists traveling along the route.
The department also issued a separate traffic update for the Spirit of Survival Race, scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 4.
Gore Boulevard was scheduled to close from 31st Street to 35th Street beginning at approximately 7 a.m. Motorists would still be able to access the hospital from Arlington Avenue during the closure.
Detour signs were scheduled to be posted to help direct motorists around the affected area.
Lawton police encouraged motorists to plan ahead, allow extra time for travel and use caution around the event routes.
