Oklahoma – The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is recognizing one of its troopers after a family shared a message of gratitude following a recent traffic crash.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Whitney S. wrote to the agency praising Trooper Austin Martin for his professionalism and compassion after he responded to an accident involving her family.
In her message, Whitney said her two young sons were scared and anxious following the crash, but Trooper Martin went above and beyond to help them feel safe and comfortable during the stressful situation.
She noted that the trooper gave the children stickers and even allowed them to activate the lights and sirens on his patrol vehicle, a gesture she said had a lasting positive impact on them.
Whitney said the interaction helped turn a frightening experience into one her children will remember positively, while also showing them that law enforcement officers are there to help and protect.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the recognition highlights the importance of service, compassion, and connection in addition to emergency response work.
