Lawton, OK – The Lawton Police Department recently wrapped up its Junior Citizens Police Academy, giving young participants a behind-the-scenes look at the many roles and responsibilities within the department.
Held over the course of a week, the program allowed children to learn about the different divisions of the Lawton Police Department while gaining a better understanding of how officers and civilian personnel serve the Lawton-Fort Sill community.
The department said the academy was designed to provide participants with an interactive learning experience, helping them explore various aspects of law enforcement through demonstrations, presentations, and hands-on activities.
Lawton Police thanked everyone who took part in the week-long program and extended special appreciation to First Baptist Church for hosting the academy.
The Junior Citizens Police Academy is part of the department’s community policing efforts, which focus on strengthening relationships between officers and residents by encouraging education, trust, and positive interactions with local youth.
Officials said they hope participants left the academy with a greater appreciation for the work performed by the department and the many specialized units that help keep the community safe.
The department also encouraged families interested in future Junior Citizens Police Academy sessions to contact the Lawton Police Department’s Training Division for information about upcoming classes.
Lawton Police said community members can also follow the department’s social media channels for updates on future programs, events, and public safety information.
