Lawton, OK – The City of Lawton celebrated its 125th birthday with a day of events highlighting the city’s history, community and longtime residents.
The celebration began with a Cowboy Breakfast before attendees watched a cattle drive as longhorns made their way through Elmer Thomas Park.
The city also marked the ribbon cutting for the newly renovated McMahon Memorial Auditorium, giving residents an opportunity to see the updated facility as part of the birthday festivities.
One of the celebration’s special moments came during a cake-cutting ceremony with 92-year-old Jerry Houghton, who shares an Aug. 6 birthday with the City of Lawton.
The celebration continued with performances and an awards ceremony inside the renovated auditorium, where the city recognized people who have contributed to the Lawton community.
City officials thanked everyone who attended the celebration and helped mark the 125-year milestone.
The event brought residents together to celebrate Lawton’s history while recognizing the people and traditions that have helped shape the city over its 125 years.
