Citizens Academy participants get behind-the-scenes look at Lawton Fire Department during week 3

Lawton, OK – Participants in the City of Lawton’s Citizens Academy spent week three learning about the operations of the Lawton Fire Department and gaining a closer look at the work firefighters perform throughout the community.

During the session, Fire Chief Jared Williams provided an overview of the department, highlighting the services offered by the agency and discussing the wide range of emergency calls firefighters respond to each year.

Participants also toured Fire Station No. 1, where they had the opportunity to explore the station, view emergency equipment and learn more about the daily responsibilities of firefighters.

City officials said the tour gave participants a firsthand look at the facilities, apparatus and living spaces used by firefighters during their shifts while providing a better understanding of what it takes to provide emergency services around the clock.

The Citizens Academy program was created to give residents a deeper understanding of how city departments operate and how municipal services are delivered throughout the community.

Each week, participants meet with representatives from different city departments to learn about their responsibilities and the role they play in serving Lawton residents.

Officials said the program will continue to provide participants with behind-the-scenes access to city services as future sessions highlight additional departments and operations.

The City of Lawton encouraged residents to stay tuned for future updates as the Citizens Academy continues throughout the year.
