Governor Stitt calls for statewide effort to combat unlawful psychoactive marijuana byproducts in Oklahoma

Lawton, OK – Governor Kevin Stitt has called for a coordinated statewide effort to address the rising concerns over psychoactive marijuana byproducts in Oklahoma.

In a letter to key officials, including the Secretary of Public Safety, directors from the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control, the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority, and other state agencies, Stitt emphasized the need for a unified approach to combat the illegal manufacturing, distribution, and sale of these substances.

The governor highlighted the growing risk posed by compounds such as Delta-8 THC, Delta-10 THC, Hexahydrocannabinol (HHC), and others, which are often synthesized from hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD).

These substances, which have psychoactive properties, are becoming more widely available in the market, but without proper regulation. Stitt stressed that they are being marketed to young people and pose a serious threat to public health and safety.

Governor Stitt has directed the involved agencies to conduct coordinated investigations to identify the production and distribution of these compounds, targeting both licensed dispensaries and unlicensed venues like convenience stores.

Additionally, he called for a focus on ensuring compliance within the medical marijuana industry and addressing any regulatory gaps in the current system.

By working together, these agencies will aim to strengthen enforcement and regulatory actions to protect Oklahomans from these dangerous substances.
