LPD investigates death after vehicle drives into floodwaters and becomes submerged

Lawton, OK – The Lawton Police Department is investigating a fatal incident that occurred early Saturday at the intersection of 2nd Street and F Avenue, where a vehicle became submerged in floodwaters.

According to officials, emergency responders witnessed a vehicle drive into an area of standing water. Due to the dangerous conditions, first responders were unable to safely reach the submerged vehicle in time.

The Lawton Police Department’s Dive Team was later called to the scene and successfully recovered the victim from the vehicle.

Authorities confirmed that the victim’s family has been notified. As of now, no additional details about the victim or circumstances leading to the incident have been released.

The incident comes amid ongoing flooding throughout the Lawton area. Police are urging residents to avoid traveling through flooded streets and to remain cautious until conditions improve.

“With the roads still flooded in areas of town, we urge you to stay off the roadway if you can,” the department stated in a public advisory. “Please follow our updates for the latest information as this investigation continues.”

Officials continue to monitor flooded zones and encourage community members to report any hazardous conditions.
