Lawton business collecting book donations for families in need

LAWTON, Okla. – A Lawton business is holding its annual book drive to benefit families in need right here in our community.

Each year, the UPS store in Lawton collects donations of money and new books to give to families in need.

“There are no hidden fees, every penny of every dollar goes towards the purchase of the books, there’s no administrative costs or anything like that,” said owner Yvonne Landmark.

In addition to every cent going towards the book, every dollar raised here in Lawton will equal one book that is guaranteed to stay in Lawton.

“Not everybody can write a $500 check, not everybody can write a $50 check. Most folks can put 4 quarters together and go put them in that little box in the store and know they just bought a book for a child in their neighborhood,” Landmark said.

This is part of the Toys for Tots Literacy Program. After the holidays, the books will be purchased and distributed to families in our community, with the kids being able to take the books home with them.

“We all know struggling single moms, we all know struggling single dads, right now during this pandemic we know struggling families. Whether you write a check, bring in four quarters, or have a spare five in your pocket. It’s something we all get to partner together to help relieve some of the burden for these parents,” Landmark said.
