Oklahoma – Three members of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol were awarded Public Service Commendation medals by the 95th Adjutant General Battalion (Reception) at Fort Sill for their efforts in assisting a grieving mother.
Lieutenant Matt White, Trooper Conner Fryrear, and Communications Officer Charity Shipley received the honor, which is the fourth highest medal awarded to public servants.
The recognition stems from their actions in January when a young soldier at Fort Sill became critically ill just days after arriving for training.
As his condition worsened, he was transferred to the ICU, prompting his mother to travel from Pennsylvania to be by his side.
Trooper Fryrear personally picked her up from the airport and ensured she arrived at the hospital in time to spend several final hours with her son before he passed away.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s efforts were recognized for their compassion and dedication in supporting a military family during a tragic and difficult moment.
