Oklahoma – Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt has directed the state Attorney General to cooperate with a federal audit involving Medicaid Fraud Control Units, emphasizing efforts to prevent misuse of taxpayer dollars and strengthen oversight of Medicaid programs.
The directive follows a letter referencing an audit initiative associated with the Donald Trump administration, which focuses on enforcement, documentation accuracy, and accountability among Medicaid providers. In the correspondence, Stitt stated that Oklahoma should lead in strengthening oversight measures and supporting efforts aimed at identifying fraud within the system.
Stitt also addressed a separate audit request involving the Oklahoma Health Care Authority, arguing that concerns raised about it appeared politically motivated. The governor maintained that enforcement efforts should prioritize taxpayer protection and system integrity rather than political influence.
The Oklahoma Health Care Authority, which oversees the state’s Medicaid program, has been implementing the SoonerSelect managed care initiative as part of broader efforts to increase transparency and accountability in Medicaid services. Oklahoma Health Care Authority officials have described the program as a key step in modernizing the state’s Medicaid system.
Stitt also referenced recent federal fraud enforcement discussions tied to a task force announcement involving JD Vance, underscoring the importance of cooperation between state and federal agencies in addressing fraud. He emphasized that swift action on complaints submitted to the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit remains critical to protecting vulnerable residents and ensuring public funds are used appropriately.
