LPD reminds motorcycle riders to stay safe on the roads this summer

Lawton, OK – As temperatures climb and more motorcycles take to the streets, local authorities are reminding riders to stay safe and alert throughout the summer season.

With the added risks that come from heat and increased road activity, motor officers are encouraging riders to stay hydrated during long rides, noting that high temperatures can lead to fatigue and dehydration faster than expected.

Riders are also advised to wear proper safety gear—even in hot weather. Helmets, gloves, boots, and protective jackets offer critical protection in the event of an accident and can significantly reduce the risk of serious injury.

Another important reminder: never drink and ride. Riding under the influence is not only illegal but also puts the rider and others at extreme risk. Officials urge those who have consumed alcohol to leave their bike parked and use a safe mode of transportation instead.

The department is also promoting upcoming motorcycle safety courses hosted by its motor unit, in partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Highway Safety. These programs aim to provide valuable training and tips for riders of all skill levels.

Motor officers encourage everyone to stay alert, ride responsibly, and remember that the roads are shared by all.
