Lawton, OK – The City of Lawton is preparing for the next phase of its Citywide Park Improvements Project, with eight neighborhood parks identified for new playground improvements.
Phase IV of the project is supported by $613,727.20 through the Healthy Kids Initiative, in partnership with Play & Park Structures. The funding will help offset the cost of new playground equipment while allowing the city to continue expanding improvements through PROPEL 2040 funding.
The eight parks included in Phase IV are Harold Park, Francis Curb Park, Country Club Heights Park, East Side Park, Patterson Park, Albert Johnson Park, Sullivan Village Park, and Crystal Hills Park.
According to the City of Lawton, the proposed playground improvements will vary by location and include features designed for different ages and abilities, with an emphasis on accessibility, active play, and creating welcoming recreation spaces for neighborhood families.
The project is part of the city’s continued effort to address aging playground equipment and improve safety and accessibility throughout Lawton’s park system.
City officials said the improvements build on the long-term goals of the PROPEL 2040 Capital Improvement Program, which includes modernizing neighborhood parks and enhancing public spaces across the community.
Through multiple phases of the Citywide Park Improvements Project, Lawton has continued investing in updated recreational facilities designed to provide residents with safer and more accessible areas for outdoor activities.
The city said Phase IV will help continue that work by bringing updated playground equipment to neighborhoods while supporting its broader commitment to improving quality-of-life amenities for families throughout Lawton.
