Oklahoma Highway Patrol unit struck during emergency response after vehicle turns into private drive, trooper airlifted to hospital after crash-related injuries

Oklahoma – An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper was injured following a collision while responding to an emergency call involving an overturned dump truck, according to officials.

Authorities said the incident occurred at approximately 10:00 a.m. as troopers were en route to an injury crash on State Highway 9 near SH-9A. A trooper was traveling with emergency lights and sirens activated when the collision occurred.

Officials said the trooper was attempting to pass a vehicle on the left when that vehicle turned into a private drive and struck the patrol unit. The impact caused the patrol vehicle to roll multiple times before coming to rest off the roadway.

The trooper was trapped inside the vehicle for approximately 15 minutes before being extricated. He was transported by air to a Tulsa-area hospital in stable condition and was later released the same evening.

The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
