Lawton, OK – The City of Lawton, Oklahoma, highlighted student achievements, community service efforts, and public safety awareness initiatives during the April 14 City Council meeting.
The MacArthur High School Highlander Battalion JROTC Drill and Color Guard teams were recognized for earning their fifth consecutive Army State Championship. The team secured the title on April 4, 2026, at Tinker Air Force Base, with strong performances across armed and unarmed divisions. During the meeting, cadets presented the colors, led the Pledge of Allegiance, and performed a demonstration.
Eagle Scout Gage Bradford was also recognized for his service project at Willow Creek Ballpark. The graduating Eisenhower High School senior led improvements that included installing picnic tables, benches behind home plate, and reinforcing the baseball backstop. Bradford raised more than $3,200 in community support to complete the project.
The council also proclaimed April 2026 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, emphasizing education, prevention, and support for survivors, and recognizing local organizations that assist affected individuals.
In addition, April 12–18, 2026, was recognized as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, honoring emergency dispatchers for their critical role in responding to emergencies and coordinating public safety services.
City officials praised the honorees and emphasized the importance of continued community involvement and service throughout Lawton.
