Lawton, OK – The City of Lawton has started repairs to the barrier walls along the Cache Road bridge over Fort Sill Boulevard near Central Middle School. Construction began this morning following damage to the barrier caused by a recent vehicle accident.
Officials said the repairs are necessary to ensure the barriers continue to protect motorists during impact events.
During construction, drivers can expect inside lanes of Fort Sill Boulevard to be closed and one westbound lane on Cache Road to be blocked. Full road closures will also occur at times to allow equipment to safely lift and move the barriers.
Temporary closures are expected to last about 20 minutes each and will be scheduled during non-peak hours, avoiding school drop-off and pick-up times as well as lunch periods. Detours using nearby on- and off-ramps will be available to maintain traffic flow.
The city expects the repairs to be completed by Friday, February 20, and encouraged drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use caution when traveling through the work zone.
