LAWTON, Okla. – Lawton police officers shot and killed a 30-year-old man accused of breaking into an apartment early Tuesday morning and pointing a firearm at officers.
According to an Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation news release, Duane Scott Murray tried to break into an apartment in the 1400 block of Northwest Hunter Road. OSBI officials said Murray eventually broke down the door and forced his way into the apartment.
The news release states that at some point during the home invasion he made a female resident remove her clothing. She eventually managed to safely escape the apartment.
Lawton police officers responded to the scene and encountered Murray, who they said was in possession of a gun. The officers tried to negotiate with Murray for about an hour, but at one point authorities said he pointed the gun at officers.
The officers discharged their weapons, striking and killing Murray.
OSBI officials said the details are based on an ongoing investigation and their initial understanding of the facts and circumstances may change over the course of the investigation. OSBI agents will submit a report summarizing their investigation to the district attorney’s office upon its completion.
The district attorney will determine whether to file charges against the officers.
