Oklahoma Highway Patrol continues support for Governor’s Secure Oklahoma Schools initiative

Oklahoma – Since June 2022, Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) troopers have been dedicating part of their work week to the Governor’s executive order, Secure Oklahoma Schools, aimed at enhancing the safety of schools across the state.

As part of the initiative, each trooper is required to spend at least one hour per week at a school within their assignment area, fostering relationships with students and staff while serving as a deterrent to potential threats.

In addition to regular school visits, every trooper has undergone specialized training in the latest active shooter response tactics to better prepare for potential emergencies.

Since the initiative’s launch, troopers have made 31,855 school visits, reinforcing their commitment to safeguarding Oklahoma’s future leaders and ensuring a safer environment for students and staff across the state.
