Oklahoma – Cadets with the 75th Oklahoma Highway Patrol Academy are completing specialized active shooter response training this week as part of their preparation to serve as state troopers.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the cadets are participating in LASER training, which stands for Law Enforcement Active Shooter Emergency Response. The program is designed to prepare law enforcement officers to respond rapidly and effectively during active shooter incidents, with an emphasis on stopping threats as quickly as possible and reducing casualties.
The training teaches cadets to deploy quickly, move decisively toward the sound of gunfire, and take immediate action to stop violence. Officials said the goal is to equip future troopers with the skills needed to respond during some of the most dangerous and time-sensitive situations law enforcement officers may encounter.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol shared video footage of the training and highlighted the importance of preparing cadets to protect the public during critical incidents. The agency noted that active shooter response training has become an essential component of modern law enforcement instruction as agencies across the country continue to focus on rapid intervention strategies.
In addition to highlighting the training, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol used the opportunity to encourage potential applicants to consider a career as a state trooper.
“We’re looking for those willing to stand between danger and the people they are sworn to protect,” the agency said in its recruitment message.
Officials said the Department provides recruits with the necessary training, equipment, and support needed to perform the job. The agency emphasized that it is seeking individuals who possess the determination and commitment required to respond when others are fleeing danger.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol also announced that the application process for the 77th Oklahoma Highway Patrol Academy is scheduled to open on Sept. 1. Interested individuals are encouraged to connect with a recruiter and learn more about career opportunities within the agency.
The 75th Academy continues to progress through its training curriculum as cadets prepare for future service across Oklahoma. Active shooter response instruction is one of several components included in the academy’s comprehensive training program aimed at preparing recruits for the challenges of modern law enforcement.
