Lawton, OK – The Lawton Police Department recently hosted an Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) training course for law enforcement agencies across Southwest Oklahoma.
The 16-hour intermediate training program, developed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), focuses on helping officers recognize and identify signs of impairment caused by drugs, alcohol or a combination of both.
The course also teaches officers how to properly observe and document indicators of impairment, strengthening their ability to identify potentially impaired drivers during roadside encounters.
The department shared the update on social media, highlighting its role in providing training opportunities for law enforcement agencies throughout the region.
ARIDE is designed to build on officers’ existing knowledge of impaired driving enforcement and improve their ability to recognize impairment that may not be immediately apparent during a traffic stop.
The Lawton Police Department encouraged residents to follow its social media pages for additional updates and information.
