Lawton, OK – A portion of the Lawton Correctional and Rehabilitation Facility is currently without heat due to a malfunction in its heating system, officials confirmed Tuesday. The private company GEO Group, which operates the facility, issued a statement addressing the situation.
According to the statement, one housing unit at the facility is experiencing technical difficulties with its heating system. In response to the issue, inmates assigned to the affected unit have been temporarily moved to another area within the facility while repairs are being carried out.
“We can confirm that one housing unit at the Lawton Correctional and Rehabilitation Facility is currently experiencing issues with the unit’s heating system. The inmates in the housing unit have been temporarily transferred to another unit while the repairs are underway,” the statement read.
Facility officials did not provide a specific timeline for when the heating issue would be resolved, but assured the public that corrective measures are being implemented to restore normal conditions as quickly as possible.
The facility, which houses both male and female inmates, has not reported any injuries or incidents related to the heating disruption. GEO Group has stated that the safety and well-being of all individuals at the facility remain their top priority during the repair process.
This is the latest in a series of maintenance-related challenges faced by correctional facilities across the state in recent months. However, officials emphasized that the relocation of inmates has ensured their comfort and safety while the issue is addressed.
