Lawton, OK – Lawton Police Department is warning residents about a false social media post claiming a masked attacker is targeting women in Lawton.
The department said the post is false and was not created by the Lawton Police Department.
Police urged residents not to share the information, warning that scammers can make posts appear to come from legitimate law enforcement agencies.
Police said residents had contacted the department asking about the circulating post.
The department encouraged people to verify the source of information before sharing it, especially when posts involve alleged threats or crimes.
“When in doubt, check the source before you share,” Lawton Police said.
