Lawton, OK – The Lawton Fire Department responded to the Indiahoma Fire Saturday, sending multiple units to the scene as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
Lawton police officers were also assisting with scene security, according to the department.
Despite the fire’s proximity to the area, the department reassured residents that Lawton remained safe and that the fire would not spread toward the city.
The wildfire prompted evacuations in parts of the area and led to a large response involving local, federal and tribal agencies. Around 200 responders were involved in the firefighting effort, according to KSWO. Several structures were also reported damaged or destroyed.
The Lawton Fire Department asked the public to pray for the firefighters and other emergency responders working at the scene.
