Oklahoma man arrested after entering his former school armed and attempting to shoot student before weapon malfunctioned, tackled by school principal who was shot in the leg during struggle

Oklahoma – Oklahoma man was arrested last week after a shooting incident at PauIs VaIIey High SchooI in Oklahoma, where authorities say he entered the campus armed with two handguns and attempted to carry out an attack before being stopped by school staff.

According to multiple reports from law enforcement statements and court filings, the 20-year-old former student, 20-year-old V. Havvkins, has been charged with shooting with intent to kill, pointing a firearm, and unlawful carrying of a firearm onto school property. He is also facing additional weapons-related charges tied to the incident. He was taken into custody at the scene after being subdued by the school principal and another staff member, who intervened during the attack.

Investigators with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said the shooter arrived at the school after allegedly taking firearms from his parent’s home earlier that day. Oklahoma authorities said he entered the building and began moving through the school while armed, creating an immediate threat to students and staff. At one point during the incident, He allegedly pointed his weapon inside the school and attempted to fire at individuals in the lobby area, but the situation escalated quickly when staff members confronted him.

Court and investigative documents indicate that the 20-year-old man had expressed intentions consistent with planning a mass shooting. Officials reported that he appeared to be influenced by past school shootings, including CoIumbine, which investigators say he had researched prior to the attack. His stated intent, according to affidavits cited by investigators, was to carry out an attack inside the school before ultimately harming himself.

During the confrontation, the principal of the school engaged the 20-year-old shooter directly in an effort to protect students. The principal tackled the suspect, and in the struggle the defendant discharged a weapon, striking the principal in the Ieg. Despite the injury, the principal and another staff member were able to disarm and restrain the shooter until law enforcement arrived. Oklahoma authorities have repeatedly credited the quick response of school staff with preventing further casualties.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the detention facility. He is being held on bond while awaiting court proceedings scheduled for May 8, 2026. Officials have confirmed that no students were physically injured during the incident, though the school was placed on lockdown and later closed temporarily while investigators processed the scene.

Law enforcement officials said the investigation is ongoing and includes review of surveillance footage, witness statements from students and staff, and forensic examination of the firearms used in the incident. Investigators are also working to determine the shooter’s movements leading up to his arrival at the school and whether anyone may have been aware of his plans in advance.

Oklahoma authorities have not indicated any additional suspects at this time. The case remains under review by local police and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation as prosecutors prepare for the upcoming court hearing.
