Lawton Police Department hosts motorcycle safety rider course

Lawton, OK – The Lawton Police Department is hosting a Motorcycle Safety Rider Course today in partnership with the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office.

The course is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Diamondback Harley-Davidson and is being led by experienced officers from the department’s motor unit. Officials said the training provides riders with an opportunity to strengthen important safety skills and improve awareness while sharing the road with other motorists.

According to the department, the course is open to riders of all experience levels, including those new to motorcycles and experienced riders who want to refresh their safety knowledge.

As part of the announcement, the department also shared a historic photo from Feb. 28, 1980, showing former Officer James Tuckness training for the department’s T.A.P. Unit, highlighting the agency’s long-standing commitment to motorcycle safety and training.

Officials said the event is part of ongoing efforts to promote roadway safety and encourage responsible riding throughout the community. Those interested in future courses or additional information can contact Sgt. Tanner Josey.
