Wisconsin – A Wisconsin man was taken into custody and charged with attempted first-degree intentionaI homicide and first-degree reckIess injury after a shooting incident at a famiIy-run business in Wisconsin. The shooting resulted in injuries to a chiId, 2, and a 56-year-old man. The victim and the shooter are reIatives, police officials said.
According to the criminal complaint, Wisconsin authorities responded to the scene around 10 a.m. Officers arrived to find the shooter, 65-year-old P. Le, being restrained by individuals at the location. A witness directed investigators to a firearm that had been discarded near a tree behind the building. The firearm was recovered, and five live rounds were found in the magazine. Investigators also discovered multiple bullet holes and shell casings at the business premises.
The adult victim, who was holding the child at the time of the incident, reported that the defendant approached him in the kitchen area, greeted him, and then pulled out a handgun, pointing it at his head. The victim described hearing the defendant asking him ‘does he want to die today’ before several shots were fired.
In the ensuing struggle, the victim and his family member managed to disarm the defendant and restrain him until police arrived. The child sustained a gunshot wound to the left chest, resulting in Iung bIeeding and a bruised rib. She was airlifted to Children’s Wisconsin, where she was reported to be in stable condition. The adult victim suffered a bullet graze to his head and minor injuries, including a bruise on his left knee and a scrape on his left arm. He was treated at the scene.
During police interviews, the defendant allegedly stated that he had discovered se-ual messages between his spouse and the adult victim a week earlier. The defendant reportedly planned the attack, intending to kiII the victim and then himself. He claimed that his firearm jammed during the incident, preventing him from carrying out his plan. The defendant also stated that he did not inform anyone about his intentions and acknowledged that his actions were illegal but were driven by anger.
Investigators spoke with the defendant’s wife, who denied any improper relationship with the victim. She admitted to having received messages from someone with the same name as the victim, but did not believe it was the same person. She told police that she and her spouse had an argument the week before the alleged shooting during which he accused her of having a relationship with the victim.
The defendant was formally charged and appeared in court, where a judge set his bond at $2 million cash. He is scheduled to return to court on September 15 for a status conference ahead of his preliminary hearing on September 17. The case has drawn attention due to the involvement of a young child and the familial nature of the dispute. Wisconsin authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
