Oklahoma – Governor Kevin Stitt has signed an executive order reinforcing Oklahoma’s pro-life stance by directing state agencies to halt all public funding for individuals and organizations affiliated with abortion providers.
The order follows the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, which affirmed states’ authority to determine which providers participate in Medicaid programs, including the ability to exclude abortion-related providers.
“Oklahoma is a pro-life state, and our policies should reflect that at every level of our government,” Governor Stitt said. “We won’t allow tax dollars to indirectly subsidize and flow into the abortion industry under the guise of women’s health.”
The executive order instructs the Oklahoma Health Care Authority to review and revise provider credentialing standards to align with the state’s pro-life policies.
It requires termination or non-renewal of SoonerCare contracts with providers involved in abortion services and mandates that all SoonerCare providers attest to whether they or their affiliates participate in abortion-related activities.
Additionally, the order prohibits all state agencies from awarding grants, contracts, or funding to abortion-affiliated providers. The OHCA must begin rulemaking within 60 days, implement revised standards within 120 days, and submit a report within 150 days detailing enforcement and compliance efforts.
