Lawton, OK — A 42-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a series of murders across multiple Oklahoma counties, authorities announced Wednesday. Richard Chambers was taken into custody in Hughes County, near Ada, after a thorough investigation involving several local and state law enforcement agencies.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI), working in coordination with the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office, Midwest City Police Department, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP), was able to identify Chambers as a person of interest linked to three separate murders.
The string of killings began in Midwest City, where 62-year-old Annie Brown was found dead inside her home. Police discovered Brown had been shot, and her vehicle was missing from the property. Several hours later, the car was located approximately 90 miles away in the small town of Allen, Oklahoma.
The investigation quickly expanded after authorities uncovered more information linking Chambers to the deaths. Details about the other victims have yet to be officially released, but investigators suggest there may be more to the story as they continue their work.
OSBI spokesperson Hunter McKee confirmed that the joint efforts of law enforcement agencies helped track Chambers down. “The collaboration between local and state agencies has been essential in identifying and apprehending the suspect,” McKee said. “We are still in the process of gathering all the facts, but we believe we have the right person in custody.”
Chambers was arrested in Hughes County without incident on Wednesday morning. He is currently being held in the Pontotoc County Jail pending formal charges. Authorities are continuing to investigate his possible involvement in additional crimes across the region.
At this time, officials have not provided a clear motive for the killings, and further details surrounding the investigation are expected to be released in the coming days. Law enforcement is urging anyone with additional information to come forward to aid in the ongoing case.
The killings have left the communities in the affected areas on edge, as residents process the shocking events that have unfolded in recent days. As the investigation continues, authorities are working to bring closure to the families of the victims and determine the full scope of Chambers’ alleged actions.
