Oklahoma – The 74th Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) Academy kicked off a new phase of training on May 10, as cadets were introduced to their TAC (Training, Advising, and Counseling) officers.
These seasoned instructors will guide the cadets throughout their rigorous training journey, which is designed to prepare them for the high-pressure world of law enforcement.
The evening also marked the beginning of a critical element of the academy’s curriculum: stress inoculation. In an intense initiation exercise, cadets were awakened in the middle of the night for a demanding physical training session.
The scenario, complete with flashing lights and sirens, is meant to simulate the chaotic and unpredictable situations that law enforcement officers often face.
This midnight exercise is just the start of what will be a challenging and exhaustive training process.
Throughout their time in the academy, cadets will be pushed to their limits to ensure they are prepared for the high-stress environments they will encounter in the field.
The goal is to train officers who can maintain their composure and make sound decisions even in the most difficult circumstances.
Everything in the academy is designed with one overarching purpose: to prepare future troopers to stay safe while working the often-dangerous roads of Oklahoma—where they frequently work alone and must respond to rapidly evolving situations.
The academy’s demanding exercises aim to build the resilience and quick-thinking skills necessary for the unpredictable nature of law enforcement.
