Lawton, OK – Twenty-eight volunteers helped remove more than 1,200 pounds of trash during a recent Stream Clean Saturday event along Numu Creek, according to the City of Lawton.
City officials said the cleanup took place behind the Sheridan Road Walmart and continued along the creek to NW Ferris Avenue. Volunteers worked together throughout the event to collect debris and improve the condition of the waterway.
In total, participants gathered approximately 1,220 pounds of trash during the effort.
The city thanked the volunteers who participated, noting that community involvement played a key role in the success of the cleanup.
Officials said another cleanup event is planned for March as part of the Great American Clean Up. Residents interested in participating were encouraged to follow the city’s social media pages, download the GoLawton app, or contact the city for more information.
