Unity Walk in Altus Honors Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Altus, Okla. – The community of Altus came together on Monday to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a Unity Walk, organized by the Dream Big Project Management. The event, which began at Altus City Hall, saw participants walk down Martin Luther King Avenue, eventually ending at the Dream Big Connection Convention Center.

The turnout was impressive, as residents of all ages gathered to take part in the march. Many participants carried the American Flag, while others displayed a banner honoring Dr. King, further symbolizing the event’s commitment to unity and equality.

Dan Goodson, one of the event organizers, spoke to the larger significance of the walk, emphasizing that the event’s meaning transcended individual recognition. “This is definitely bigger than us,” Goodson said. “It’s definitely a dream of all Americans, you know, not just one person. We’re just kicking it off here on MLK Day with all these kids behind me.”

The walk not only served as a powerful visual tribute to Dr. King’s vision of a united America but also included a fun, educational component. After reaching the Convention Center, attendees had the opportunity to participate in an MLK Quiz Bowl, further engaging with the themes of civil rights and social justice that Dr. King championed throughout his life.

The Unity Walk in Altus offered both a solemn reflection and a celebration of progress, reminding the community of the ongoing importance of Dr. King’s message of unity, equality, and the dream of a better future for all.
