Suspect arrested following package theft investigation in Lawton

Lawton, OK – Lawton police arrested a suspect earlier this month following an investigation into a reported package theft, commonly referred to as “porch piracy.”

According to the Lawton Police Department, patrol officers responded to a call on January 8, 2026, regarding a stolen package. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the suspect, who was taken into custody.

Police said the individual was arrested on charges of porch piracy, obstruction, assault on a police officer, and an outstanding city warrant.

Authorities noted that package theft continues to be a growing issue, impacting not only residents financially but also raising safety concerns when suspects enter private property.

Police encouraged residents to take preventive measures, including tracking deliveries closely, arranging for packages to be delivered to secure locations such as trusted neighbors or workplaces, and using security cameras or smart doorbells to deter theft and assist with investigations.

Officials emphasized that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The department also encouraged the public to follow its social media channels for updates and additional safety information, reminding residents that community cooperation plays a key role in keeping neighborhoods safe.
