Lawton, OK – A shooting in Logan County on Thursday afternoon left one man hospitalized and another in police custody. The incident occurred at a residence near S Bryant Road and Shelly Lane, south of Guthrie. Authorities confirmed that the shooting took place between two roommates inside their shared home.
According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, the altercation escalated when one of the roommates shot the other around 1:30 p.m. After being wounded, the victim managed to escape by jumping out of a window and ran to a neighbor’s house, where he called 911. The sheriff’s office responded quickly to the scene, finding both individuals at the location.
“The person that was shot was able to get out of the house and run to a neighbor’s residence for help,” said Logan County Sheriff Damon Devereaux. “The suspect also fled to the neighbor’s house after the shooting.”
The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he is expected to survive. The suspected shooter was detained at the scene for questioning.
Neighbors in the quiet, tight-knit community expressed concern and sadness over the event. David Pittman, a nearby resident, said he knew the individuals involved and was shocked by the violence. “It’s unfortunate that it escalated to this point,” Pittman said. “These are people I’ve known growing up, and while they had their issues, this is something no one ever expected.”
Sheriff Devereaux noted that the shooting is under investigation and that the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) has been contacted for assistance. While details surrounding the motive remain unclear, authorities are working to piece together what led to the violent encounter.
As the investigation continues, the community remains in shock over the incident, and residents hope for a swift recovery for the victim.
