Semi hits unoccupied vehicle left on I-35 near Guthrie after driver struck deer

Oklahoma – The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that a semi-truck collided with an unoccupied vehicle on Interstate 35 near Guthrie early Wednesday morning. Troopers said the incident occurred around 4 a.m. after the vehicle’s driver struck a deer, leaving the car disabled in the middle of the highway.

According to troopers, the driver moved to the side of the road before the crash and was not injured. The semi driver reportedly did not see the stopped vehicle before colliding with it.

OHP emphasized that similar situations happen every year, sometimes resulting in fatalities. Authorities urged drivers to take immediate safety measures if their vehicle becomes disabled, including turning on hazard lights, moving away from the roadway, and calling for assistance.

Troopers reminded the public that even if a vehicle appears visible, other drivers may not notice it, particularly at night. They encouraged motorists to know how to activate hazard lights before an emergency occurs and to remain in a safe location until help arrives.
