Oklahoma – What began as a routine traffic stop for speeding on Interstate 40 in the early hours of June 11 turned into a major drug bust after an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper noticed signs of possible criminal activity.
The trooper initiated a probable cause search of the vehicle, which led to the discovery of a substantial quantity of illegal substances. Recovered from the vehicle were 150 pounds of marijuana, 400 pre-rolled marijuana products, 200 THC vape cartridges, and approximately 3 grams of methamphetamine.
The driver was arrested at the scene and now faces multiple charges, including drug trafficking and possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) with intent to distribute.
While Oklahoma law permits limited possession of medical marijuana, authorities emphasized that this case far exceeded legal boundaries. A licensed patient may legally possess up to 3 ounces of marijuana—making the 150-pound seizure roughly 80,000% over the legal limit, not accounting for the additional marijuana products or methamphetamine found.
“Methamphetamine is never legal under any circumstances in Oklahoma,” the Oklahoma Highway Patrol stated in a release.
Officials underscored that routine traffic enforcement remains a key tool in detecting and preventing broader criminal activity. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reiterated its ongoing commitment to disrupting drug trafficking and enhancing public safety throughout the state.
