Oklahoma City, OK – A man has been arrested in connection with a homicide that occurred nearly two weeks ago near 4th Street and Kentucky, following a public plea by authorities for information.
On December 20, Oklahoma City police responded to a shooting call and discovered a man lying dead by the curb. The victim, whose name has not been released, was found with a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers described the scene as indicating the individual had been shot in cold blood.
According to Oklahoma City Police Department spokesperson MSGT. Gary Knight, witnesses in the area reported hearing at least three gunshots. Some also described an altercation or argument taking place just before the shooting. One witness told police that the suspect involved in the confrontation was referred to by the nickname “Pac-Man.”
A break in the case came on the last day of the year when investigators identified the suspect as Richard Hawkins. The revelation came after two weeks of intensive investigation, including interviews with witnesses and the review of court documents.
Court records revealed that Hawkins had allegedly confessed to the crime. A witness came forward on New Year’s Eve, sharing a conversation they had with Hawkins in which he purportedly admitted, “He had to go, he had shot the guy.”
Following the developments, Hawkins was arrested in connection with the December 20 shooting. Police have not disclosed any further details regarding the motive for the killing.
MSGT. Knight confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and detectives are continuing to seek information from anyone who may have witnessed the events leading up to the deadly shooting. As of now, Hawkins faces charges related to the homicide.
Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
