Man, who was the onIy person caring for his girIfriend’s 2-year-old at the time, became upset when the chiId had an accident in his diaper before causing fataI injuries to the boy by punching him repeatedIy in the beIIy area; charged

Ohio – An Ohio man was arrested last week in Massachusetts, and charged with murder in connection to the death of his then-girIfriend’s chiId, Jamir, 2. The defendant, 25-year-old DiobIis WiIIiams, had been on the run for five years before his capture. He was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service District of Massachusetts Fugitive Task Force after officers recognized him wearing a disguise and sunglasses. Upon being confronted, the defendant discarded the wig and surrendered without further incident.

The incident dates back to March 2020 when Ohio authorities responded to the home following reports of a 2-year-old drowning in a bathtub. According to the supporting affidavit, the victim had an accident in his puII-up diaper, and the defendant placed the child in the bathtub unsupervised. Several minutes later, the toddIer was found unconscious in the tub. Body camera footage showed officers performing CPR on the victim before medics took over. Within minutes, officers are heard in the body camera calling the death a homicide.

An autopsy determined the toddler did not drown; instead, the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the abdomen. The child had bruising on the face, torso, and neck, while the lungs showed no obstruction.

According to an affidavit, after the child had an accident in his diaper, the 25-year-old defendant, who was the only person caring for him at the time, reportedly serving as a babysitter and partner to the child’s mother allegedly struck the child repeatedly, resulting in his death.

An autopsy later revealed that the child had suffered blunt force trauma and extensive bruising, leading to the conclusion that the death was not accidental. This evidence prompted the Prosecutor’s Office to issue a murder charge against the defendant. He was extradited back to Ohio to face the charge.

The 25-year-old man is currently being held in county jail on a $250,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court for his arraignment. The case has drawn attention due to the lengthy time it took to apprehend the defendant and the tragic circumstances surrounding the child’s death. Ohio authorities have emphasized the importance of bringing justice to the victim and his family.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities continue to urge anyone with additional information to come forward. The case serves as a reminder of the challenges law enforcement faces in solving cold cases and the dedication required to seek justice for victims.
