Lawton, OK – A fifth-grade student from Crosby Park Elementary is being recognized for her inspiring leadership in organizing a community cleanup that collected over 300 pounds of trash in Lawton.
Serenity, a student with a passion for environmental stewardship, recently won a regional essay contest centered around the importance of community cleanup. Motivated by her win, she took action—mobilizing nearly 30 volunteers to help clean the area surrounding Crosby Park. The group’s efforts resulted in a substantial impact, with hundreds of pounds of litter and debris removed from the neighborhood.
On the same day, a separate volunteer effort was underway at Mattie Beal Park, where members of Americas Veteran Supporters also gathered to remove several bags of trash and improve the public space.
City officials praised both groups for their commitment to enhancing Lawton’s environment and community spirit. “It’s encouraging to see young residents like Serenity taking such initiative,” a city representative said. “Efforts like these reflect the values we hope to see in our future leaders.”
These cleanups come ahead of the City of Lawton’s annual Trash Off event, scheduled for Saturday, May 17. The citywide initiative allows residents to dispose of large or difficult-to-throw-away items safely and responsibly.
The City of Lawton encourages all citizens to participate and continue supporting efforts to keep public spaces clean and welcoming for everyone.
