Lawton police responded to the I-44 shutdown after a semi jackknifed near Rogers Lane

Lawton, OK – I-44 northbound traffic was at a standstill for several hours Thursday after a semi-trailer jackknifed near the Rogers Lane exit, prompting Lawton Police Department officers to shut down the roadway and reroute motorists.

The incident occurred near the intersection of I-44 and Rogers Lane, where the semi-trailer became stuck across the highway, blocking all northbound lanes. Lawton police officers responded and called for a wrecker to remove the disabled vehicle.

In an early update, the Lawton Police Department warned that northbound traffic was halted and urged drivers to use alternate routes. Motorists were advised to take the Gore Boulevard exit or exit at Rogers Lane eastbound to avoid the blocked section of the interstate.

Police also cautioned drivers to adjust their speed for the inclement weather, noting that conditions were contributing to the hazard. The department reminded drivers to maintain extra stopping distance between vehicles, a key safety step on slippery roads.

By 8:12 p.m., authorities reported that traffic had reopened to one lane, allowing vehicles to begin moving through the area while cleanup continued. Later, an update at 8:30 p.m. confirmed that the roadway was fully open again.

Lawton police continued to remind drivers to be cautious in the weather and to follow updates from the department for further information.

No injuries were reported in the crash, and no additional details about the cause of the jackknife were immediately available.
