Lawton Man Sentenced to 25 Years After Pleading Guilty to Manslaughter in Death of Inmate

Lawton, OK – A Lawton man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in connection with the death of another inmate at the Comanche County Detention Center.

Markie Ishman, 30, was charged with manslaughter following the death of an inmate in 2023. The incident occurred at the detention facility, where Ishman was being held at the time. On Monday, Ishman entered a blind plea of guilty to the charge. A blind plea means that the defendant pleads guilty without a negotiated agreement on sentencing.

As part of the sentencing, Ishman was ordered to serve 25 years with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. This sentence will run concurrently with previous sentences he received for unrelated assault and battery convictions.

The plea agreement brings closure to the case, as the victim’s family and the community continue to cope with the tragic incident. The Comanche County Detention Center has faced scrutiny over its handling of inmate safety in the wake of this and other incidents.
