Lawton begins $3.4 million rehabilitation project on historic Gondola Dam

Lawton, OK – The City of Lawton announced that work is underway on a $3.4 million rehabilitation project for the historic Gondola Dam in Medicine Park.

City officials said the dam, which is more than 100 years old, has long been part of the area’s history and infrastructure. Although the structure is located in Medicine Park, it is owned by the City of Lawton.

Rather than removing the aging structure, the city chose to invest in restoring it to ensure it continues serving the community for years to come.

According to the city government, crews with Southern Infrastructure Group, LLC are currently on site and have begun removing damaged and deteriorated sections of the dam as part of the early stages of the project.

Officials said the rehabilitation effort is expected to continue through 2026, with completion targeted for August 2026.

City leaders described the project as an investment in preserving a piece of the region’s history while improving infrastructure that has served the community for more than a century.
