Oklahoma – Governor Kevin Stitt has appointed Robert J. Getchell to serve as district judge for Office 1 of the 24th Judicial District, which includes Creek County.
“Robert brings nearly four decades of high-level legal experience and a deep respect for the rule of law to Creek County,” said Stitt. “Robert’s successful career in private practice has earned him a stellar reputation—honorable, level-headed and fair. He’s an excellent pick for the job and I’m confident he’ll serve with integrity.”
Getchell is currently a shareholder at the law firm GableGotwals and has built an extensive legal career spanning nearly 40 years. He spent two decades as staff attorney and general counsel for abstract and title companies, focusing on transactional real estate.
He also has a strong litigation background, having represented individuals, investors, and major corporate clients—including some of the nation’s largest banks—in Oklahoma state courts.
He recently concluded a seven-year tenure on the Oklahoma Abstracters Board, where he served a term as chairman. His professional accolades include being named Lawyer of the Year for real estate and receiving the Best Lawyer Award for Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights for seven consecutive years.
“This appointment is a tremendous honor and I’m grateful to Governor Stitt for the opportunity to serve the state that I love,” said Getchell. “I’ve spent my career fighting for fairness in the courtroom, and I’m ready to bring that same dedication to the bench. As a judge, my commitment will be to justice, impartiality, and the consistent application of the law.”
Getchell earned his Bachelor of Arts in History and Juris Doctor from Oral Roberts University in 1982 and 1985, respectively. He and his wife, Christie, have lived in the Tulsa area for more than 46 years and have raised eight children.
