Lawton, OK – Lawton Animal Welfare is celebrating a major success after 18 dogs and 10 cats were adopted during a special event at the Lawton Farmers Market, turning a typical Saturday into a day full of hope, healing, and new beginnings.
The adoption event, held on July 12, drew in families from across the community, many of whom walked away with a new furry friend. Among the heartwarming stories was that of a pit bull mix, abandoned at the Farmers Market just one week earlier.
Emaciated, frightened, and in desperate need of care, the dog was rescued by Lawton Animal Welfare, treated with medical attention, proper nutrition, and compassion. On Saturday, Greg and Laronda Goff gave the dog a second chance at life by welcoming him into their home.
Another happy ending came when Jennifer Story adopted a lovable lab mix she met during the event. “It was just an instant connection,” she said, describing her new companion as the perfect match.
City officials and animal welfare staff praised the success of the event. “Great job Lawton Animal Welfare! And thank you to the families that opened their hearts and homes to a new pet,” said the City of Lawton in a public statement.
Lawton Animal Welfare emphasized that their work is far from over. Adoption fees remain waived through next Saturday at their shelter, located at 2104 SW 6th Street. Staff encourage anyone looking for a pet to visit and meet the many animals still waiting for homes.
The day’s results are a reminder of the powerful impact of community involvement — and how second chances can start with a single act of kindness.
