Citizens Academy visits Public Works for behind-the-scenes tour 

Lawton, OK – Week 11 of the Lawton Citizens Academy focused on the city’s Public Works Department, giving participants an inside look at the systems and teams that keep the city running.

The tour, supported by LATS, included stops across Lawton to explore the city’s major detention basin at Rogers Lane and 67th, electronics maintenance at 50th and Cache to see how traffic signals are managed, and an explanation of why I Avenue experiences flooding due to its location in the Numu Creek floodway.

Participants also saw vehicle demonstrations at the Public Works yard, showcasing the heavy machinery used to maintain roads and infrastructure.

City officials highlighted how Public Works plays a vital role in maintaining and improving daily life for Lawton residents.

The Citizens Academy praised the Public Works team for their dedication and hard work in keeping the city moving efficiently.
