Kentucky – A Kentucky man and woman have been arrested and charged in connection with the severe injury of the woman’s child. The child, 3, suffered extensive burns to his arms after being submerged in scaIding Iiquid. The man faces charges of first-degree assauIt and first-degree criminaI abuse of a chiId under 12, while the child’s parent is charged with first-degree criminaI abuse of a child under 12.
According to the Kentucky authorities, the incident occurred last week at the family’s home. The child was taken to the Children’s Hospital with injuries consistent with burns from scaIding liquid. During an interview, the child reportedly told investigators that ‘his parent’s partner did this to his hands, indicating that the 25-year-old man, Jakob, was responsible for the injuries.
Investigators learned that the 24-year-old mother, Breana, had left her son alone with her partner for approximately one hour, despite an ongoing child abuse investigation involving the man and the child. Child Protective Services had previously ordered that the man not be alone with the child.
The parent later admitted to waiting up to three hours before seeking medical attention for her son and providing false information to medical staff about the nature of the injuries.
Authorities in Kentucky claim that the parent left her son alone with her partner for approximately an hour, during which time her boyfriend deliberately submerged the child’s hands in scaIding watter.” The woman also admitted she lied to medical staff about how her son suffered the injuries.
Both defendants were arraigned on April 8, 2025. The man’s bond was set at $15,000 cash or $30,000 property bond, and the parent’s bond was set at $10,000 cash. Both are ordered to have no contact with the child and are scheduled to appear in court on April 15, 2025.
The child’s current condition has not been publicly disclosed, and it is unclear who currently has custody of him. The case remains under investigation, and authorities have not released further details.
